Knee Arthroscopy

Knee arthroscopy is performed when a patient has an internal derangement in the knee requiring intervention. This is a minimally invasive surgery involving only two or three incisions through which a camera (knee scope) is inserted. The torn cartilage is resected and shaved. Loose pieces of cartilage are easily removed. Inspection of the inside of the joint determining the extent of cartilage damage or arthritis is evaluated and documented with pictures. Patient is usually released a few hours after the surgery and is allowed to ambulate immediately while being instructed on strengthening exercises.
