Why Your Bone Fracture Shouldn’t Wait for the Hospital Emergency Room
Broken bones strike anyone, young or old, and demand immediate, professional care to manage pain and prevent complications. Still, who wants to spend hours waiting in a busy emergency room?
At the Spine and Orthopedic Center of New Mexico in Roswell, Dr. Omar Osmani and Dr. David Ball provide urgent fracture care with short wait times, same-day appointments, and advanced treatment for broken bones.
Fractures require immediate care
A fracture happens when there’s a traumatic force or excessive pressure on a bone, causing it to break. There are many different types of fractures depending on how the bone breaks and the location of the injury.
Most acute fractures require emergency care to reduce pain, swelling, and further injury. Immediate care allows us to stabilize the fracture, preventing complications such as nonunion or malunion.
Immediate care lets us control pain, which is often significant after a fracture. We provide splints, casts, and prescriptions to ease discomfort and begin healing.
Benefits of our urgent care for fractures
Many believe the ER is necessary for a broken bone, but our urgent care can handle most fractures quickly and efficiently. Here’s why choosing our facility is often the better choice:
In-house X-rays
We offer in-house X-rays, so you don’t have to wait in the ER. We welcome walk-ins, so you get care fast after a broken bone.
Quick and efficient care
Waiting in the ER means hours before a healthcare provider sees you, orders X-rays, and delivers pain medication. Our urgent care offers shorter wait times and multiple providers, so you get care for a broken bone much faster than at the hospital.
Shorter wait times
The ER personnel don’t just treat broken bones; they evaluate and treat medical issues and many other emergencies, which means there are often many other patients ahead of you.
Our urgent care focuses on orthopedic issues and injuries, resulting in fewer patients and ultimately shorter wait times compared to the ER.
Effective treatments
We treat broken bones with splints, closed reductions, casts, and surgery if needed.
Follow-up care
A broken bone requires follow-up care to ensure proper healing and no complications. We schedule follow-ups as needed to adjust splints, provide physical therapy, and ensure the bones are healing well.
When do you need the ER?
Although we treat various fractures, certain severe injuries require ER care. You should go to the ER instead of our urgent care if you have any of the following conditions, as these are beyond the scope of our urgent care facility:
- Open or compound fractures through the skin
- Broken bone with loss of consciousness
- Fractures with a severe deformity
- Heavy bleeding with the fracture
- Fractures of the neck, back, pelvis, or hip
- Numbness or tingling with the fracture
These injuries need more specialized care than we provide in urgent care. If you are unsure, come to us for evaluation; we will stabilize your injury and guide your next steps if further care is necessary.
Don’t wait in the ER for a fracture; we can treat it now. Call our Roswell, New Mexico office, request a consultation online, or walk into our urgent care for immediate, expert fracture care from Dr. Osmani or Dr. Ball.
